奥运会的宗旨、格言、口号 “现代奥运会”这个概念，是已故法国教育家皮埃尔·德·顾拜旦于1896年提出来的，他把现代奥运会的主要宗旨确定为“和平·友谊进步”，并明确提出，现代奥运会不以盈利为目的。
北京奥运会的宗旨是人文奥运、科技奥运和绿色奥运。奥林匹克格言--“更快、更高、更强”(Citius, Altius, Fortius)。
奥林匹克格言(Olympic Motto)亦称奥林匹克口号或奥林匹克座右铭。奥林匹克运动有一句著名的格言: 更高、更快、更强。
（Higher,Faster,Stronger)这一格言是顾拜旦的好友、巴黎阿奎埃尔修道院院长迪东(Henri Didon)于1895年在他的学生举行的一次户外运动会上,鼓励学生们时说过的一句话, 他说 : 在这里,你们的口号是:更高、更快、更强。
顾拜旦借用过来,将这句话用于奥林匹克运动。
1913年经国际奥委会批准,1920年国际奥委会将其正式确认为奥林匹克格言,在安特卫普奥运会上首次使用,成为奥林匹克标志的一部分。
奥林匹克格言，亦称奥林匹克座右铭或口号，系奥林匹克运动宗旨之一。
格言更快、更高、更强(Citius, Altius, Fortius),是顾拜旦一位密友迪东（Henri martin Didon)于1895年提出的。
